Relyve

Comparison guide

Relyve vs Google Drive for client delivery.

Almost every creator has delivered a wedding through a Drive folder at some point. It works, it costs little, and the client usually gets their files eventually.

The problems show up in the details. Google documents that Drive's maximum playback resolution is 1920 x 1080, so the 4K film you graded is not the film your couple watches. Signed-out viewers hit a documented playback limit, and the couple sees your name and email above a list of filenames instead of their wedding.

Relyve does not compress anything you upload. If you deliver in 4K, that is what streams, in the browser, on a laptop or a phone, inside a gallery carrying your brand.

Google Drive details were checked against its official documentation on 28 August 2026. Plans and limits change, so confirm current terms before you decide.

Short answer

They solve different problems.

Choose Relyve when

You want the couple to watch and browse their day immediately, in your branding, without a Google account or a folder of filenames between them and the content.

Choose Google Drive when

You need cheap general-purpose storage that is already tied to your email and photos, and the delivery experience is not something you are selling on.

A Relyve gallery presenting wedding photos and video together

Head to head

Relyve and Google Drive compared.

What the client opens

Relyve

A branded gallery with a cover, ordered content, and photos and video presented together.

Google Drive

A Drive file and folder list using Google's interface. Google documents that the preview is a scaled-down version of the complete file.

Video playback

Relyve

Relyve does not compress your media. Upload in 4K and the couple streams it in 4K, in the browser, on desktop and on their phone.

Google Drive

Google states the maximum playback resolution in Drive is 1920 x 1080, so a 4K film is never streamed at 4K regardless of what you uploaded.

Client account

Relyve

No account, and no sign-in prompt between the link and the content.

Google Drive

'Anyone with the link' works without a Google account, but Google documents a 'Playback limits' error telling signed-out viewers to sign in to continue playing a video.

Whose brand is on it

Relyve

Yours: logo, colours, cover imagery, custom fonts, and a custom domain.

Google Drive

Google's. Drive also shows your name and email as the file owner to anyone with the link.

Immediately watchable

Relyve

The gallery is what you send once the upload is done.

Google Drive

Google notes a video may play instantly for you while still processing for other devices and the people you shared it with.

Link expiry

Relyve

Deliveries are not built around a countdown.

Google Drive

Expiry dates exist, but Google states the feature is only available for eligible work or school accounts, not consumer ones.

What the storage is shared with

Relyve

Storage is for your deliveries, from 100 GB to 3 TB.

Google Drive

Free and Google One storage is shared across Drive, Gmail, and Google Photos, so a full quota also stops your email.

Trying it properly

Relyve

With Relyve you get 1 TB free for 30 days, with every feature switched on. Enough to deliver a real wedding, branded and analysed, before you decide anything.

Google Drive

15 GB free, shared with Gmail and Google Photos, then paid Google One tiers from $1.99/month.

Knowing the delivery landed

Relyve

Gallery analytics are included on every plan, so you can see the delivery being opened rather than wondering.

Google Drive

Google does not document viewer analytics for a shared link, and notes that people who are not signed in appear anonymously.

Living on the client's phone

Relyve

The couple can save the gallery to their home screen and reopen it like an app, with nothing to install and no account to create.

Google Drive

There is a Google Drive app, but it is Google's app and it expects a Google account, which is the sign-in the couple was trying to avoid.

Being fair

When Google Drive is the right answer.

Google Drive is a good product, and for the jobs it was built for it is better than Relyve. Those jobs are below. What it was not built for is the moment a paying client opens the work they commissioned.

Cost per gigabyte is the deciding factor

Google One is hard to beat on raw storage: 15 GB free, 100 GB at $1.99/month, and 2 TB at $9.99/month. If budget is the constraint, that is a real argument.

You are collaborating on documents

Contracts, shot lists, invoices, and planning docs belong in Drive. Relyve is for delivering finished visual work, not for running your paperwork.

The recipient is a supplier, not a client

Sending raw files to an editor, a planner, or a venue does not need branding or presentation. A Drive link is entirely appropriate.

You are already inside Google Workspace

If your business runs on Workspace, Drive is already paid for, already backed up, and already governed by your admin settings.

Documented limits

Every point below comes from Google's own support documentation rather than from user complaints, and each is linked so you can verify it.

What clients run into.

4K is never delivered at 4K in the player

Google states plainly that the maximum playback resolution in Drive is 1920 x 1080. Your client can download the original file, but the version they actually watch in the browser is capped at 1080p.

Google: play videos in Drive

Signed-out viewers get told to sign in

Google documents a 'Playback limits' error: you have hit the limit for viewers who are not signed in, and to continue playing the video you must sign in to a Google Account. That is a sign-up wall arriving in the middle of a couple watching their wedding.

Google: video error messages

'Video is still processing. Try again later.'

Google notes that instant playback applies to videos you uploaded in the same browser session, and the video may still be processing for other devices and for the people you shared it with. You test the link, it works for you, and the couple sees an error.

Google: instant video playback

Third-party cookies are required to play and download

Google documents that third-party cookies must be enabled to play videos in Drive, and that blocking them in Chrome will prevent downloads. Clients with tightened browser settings simply cannot get their files.

Google: download files from Drive

A full quota breaks more than delivery

Because storage is shared across Drive, Gmail, and Photos, hitting the limit stops you uploading, sending, and receiving email. Google also warns that content may be deleted after two years over quota.

Google: storage limits

Keep the storage. Change the handoff.

Most creators keep Google Drive for archiving and working files, and use Relyve for the moment the client actually opens something. The two are not mutually exclusive, and the trial gives you 1 TB for 30 days with every feature enabled, which is enough to test the difference on a real wedding. Questions creators ask

Can Google Drive stream my 4K wedding film?

Not at 4K. Google documents that the maximum playback resolution in Drive is 1920 x 1080. You can upload and store a 4K file and the client can download the original, but the in-browser playback they will almost certainly use is capped at 1080p. Relyve applies no compression, so a 4K upload streams at 4K in the browser on both desktop and mobile.

Do clients need a Google account to view a Drive link?

Not initially. With 'Anyone with the link' they can open it signed out. However, Google documents a 'Playback limits' error that appears once the limit for signed-out viewers is reached, instructing them to sign in to a Google Account to keep watching.

Can I password protect or expire a Google Drive link?

Link expiry is documented as available only for eligible work or school accounts, so a personal Google account cannot set one. Password protection on share links is not documented in Google's sharing help at all.

Can I try Relyve before switching away from Drive?

Yes. Relyve gives you 1 TB free for 30 days with every feature enabled, including branding, custom domain, and gallery analytics. That is enough space to deliver a full wedding, including video, and compare the experience against the Drive folder you would otherwise have sent. Join the waitlist and we will let you know when your trial is ready.

Can the couple keep their gallery on their phone?

Yes. With Relyve the couple can save the gallery to their home screen and reopen it like an app, without installing anything or signing into an account. The Drive equivalent is installing Google's app and signing into a Google account, which is a different experience from having their wedding one tap away.

Is Google Drive cheaper than Relyve?

Per gigabyte, yes. Google One offers 100 GB at $1.99/month and 2 TB at $9.99/month, with 15 GB free. That storage is shared with Gmail and Google Photos, and it buys you no branding, no gallery, and no client experience. The comparison is really between a storage bill and a delivery product.

Should I stop using Drive entirely?

No. Drive is a sensible place for contracts, planning documents, supplier files, and general storage. The recommendation is narrower: do not make it the thing your paying client opens to receive their wedding.
